South Carolina health insurance plan covers abortion.
The South Carolina state insurance plan presently covers abortions. Rex Rice, a South Carolina state representative, is in the process of fighting against this current policy. According to a statement given on February 25th, Rice strongly believes that the state should not continue to pay for terminating pregnancies. Rex Rice has represented parts of Pickens and Greenville Counties for the past fifteen years in the State House. Regardless of whether a pregnancy was planned or not, Rice does not feel that tax money should be going towards abortions. Many South Carolina residents are currently unaware that the health insurance program covers abortions. Rice feels that it is his duty to inform the people, and correct the issue at hand. A pro-life advocate, Rice stated that God “has a distinct purpose for each and every life,” and abortion, much less state-funded abortion, should not be tolerated.
Rice attempted to change the South Carolina state budget in past years, but has been unsuccessful. He is determined to continue the fight, until the coverage for abortion is removed from the budget.
Some state lawmakers have previously considered constructing a monument in order to remember the children that have been aborted. The proposed monument would be erected in Columbia, SC.
